Since its ground – breaking ceremonies last September 16, 2010, the project hass tarted to implement the construction of the 35 – kilowatt micro – hydropower.Initial civil works (weir/intake, headrace canal, forebay tank), construction has been done with the funding support from Misereor, Seacology. On the other hand, the community has started its community preparations and in March 2011was able to form an organization named  Sitio Lubo Renewable Energy Development Association with duly elected officer sand Board of Directors coming from the different sectors of the community.

Yamog has been involved in community capacity building skills training. Its present members of the nine (9) Board of Directors, have undergone a  capacity building skills training like TariffSetting, Financial Management (Bookkeeping) & Program Management & Organization Development Trainings (March 3 – 5, 2011) and currently has been conducting regular meetings to formulate organizational policies & other systems &procedures for the organization.

An equally important component of this project is the watershed protection andmanagement activities, where the Lubo community and the four (4) indigenous communities in the watershed areas, namely; Sigauit, Tawan-Dagat, Datal Bunglanon and Tuburan have started theeducation campaign on watershed protection including the establishment of treenurseries in their respective communities. There are around 5,000 indigenousforest trees that are maintained and cultivated in the community nurseries andare ready for transplanting in the denuded forest area. The said communities, together with the school children have been actively involved in this educational awareness to enhance community awareness on the need to protect thewatershed area. The community would learn to appreciate the importance ofmaintaining and protecting the watershed as a crucial factor in maintainingl ocal climate and thus contributing towards the sustainability of the project.

Continuing tree nursery development and transplanting has been done in a regular in a manner with continuing concerted efforts among the community. According to one of the leaders, “when we plant indigenous trees and fruit trees in the area, we will maintain a cool climate and when heavy rains come, we will not experience heavy siltation and erosion because of our watershed management and protection. Also, more importantly, there would be lesser flooding and destruction of crops in the lowland areas.”

The barangay chairman of Brgy. Ned, Hon. Joelito E. Develos agrees and fully supports the idea of watershed protection by planting forest trees includingfruit trees and other agro – forestry products. He supports the community efforts of the program for watershed management and protection by Yamog, Inc. with active participation of the community.

The Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) Lake Sebu through its Municipal Mayor Antonio Fungan has committed toc ontribute to the improvement of the barangay access road to facilitate hauling and delivery of construction materials like sand and gravel. The rehabilitation of the barangay road leading to the project site had been completed with the efforts of the MLGU.

However, in order to fully complete the micro – hydropower, the project would still need additional financial support to acquire other civil works material, electro –mechanical and transmission & distribution wires to fully implement theproject. The request for additional funding support has been forwarded to the Winrock International – AMORE and the Philippine Department of Energy for funding considerations.

As of January 2012, Yamog and the community organization including the MLGU Lake Sebu and Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Brgy. Ned are thankful that the Memorandum of Agreement between Winrock International - AMORE and the Philippine Department of Energy has been approved  for the additional funding needed to complete the micro-hydropower project within six (6) months.
