Since 1994, YAMOG started its work on micro hydropower development and watershed protection in Mindanao in 1995, we have been involved in the technology development, community support services and monitoring and evaluation of micro hydropower projects and community-based watershed management and rehabilitation.

                    Why micro hydro was and still is the emphasis of our community development model towards community sustainable development? Not only because it is one of the clean energy sources, renewable, indigenous and appropriate in upland, off grid-communities. But more importantly, is its contribution towards environmental protection and greenhouse gases reduction. The community efforts on bio-diversity conservation and protection in a given watershed area of a micro hydropower system is another important component.   The community would come to understand and appreciate the importance of bio-diversity protection and conservation that would have a direct significance on the long-term sustainability of the micro hydropower system. Hence, community plans for watershed management and rehabilitation and implementation of these projects in coordination with the local government units and the government agencies concerned play to the fore along side with the renewable energy system.  Furthermore, the strategy is on community-managed and owned micro- hydropower which enhances the capacity of the community to utilize, manage, and sustain their community resource towards sustainable development.
